For Your Heart! What You Need to Know About Antibiotic Dosage Prior to a Dental Visit
Filed Under Wellness Based Dentistry® |
In the past, patients who had a medical history of rheumatic fever or mitral valve prolapse were required to take antibiotics prior to dental cleanings and surgeries. Currently only high-risk patients are required to take the pre-medications. Patients with conditions such as mitral valve prolapse, aerotic stenosis, or rheumatic heart disease are NOT required to take an antibiotic prior dental treatment. Please consult your family physician to confirm if this change applies to you.
